Christian Ganicenco has earned acclaim both as an International soloist and as Principal Trombonist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, where he was appointed in the fall of 1999.
 
In demand as a recitalist and performing artist for Edwards Instrument Company, Mr. Ganicenco has given master classes at universities and colleges throughout United States and Europe and has been a featured artist at the International Women’s Brass Conference and the Raphael Mendez Brass Institute festival. In 2010, Mr. Ganicenco will be the featured soloist at Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington D.C., and Rekkenze Brass's summer brass course and music festival at Haus Marteau, Bayreuth in Germany.
 
Mr. Ganicenco began musical studies in his native Iasi, Romania at the age of 10 years with Roman Constantin. Later on as a student at the Military School of Music and the famous George Enescu School of Music Cristian Ganicenco won numerous prizes and awards in all major national solo competitions in Romania.
 
He made his solo debut with the Romanian Youth Orchestra playing Handel’s Concerto in F Minor. Mr. Ganicenco graduated from the prestigious Academy of Music in Bucharest prior to winning the audition with the Romanian National Radio Orchestra.
 
In 1994, Mr. Ganicenco was awarded the Lifetime Soros Foundation Award and Grant to continue his studies in the United States with Byron McCulloh at Carnegie Mellon University where he graduated in 1997 with a Master’s Degree in Trombone Performance. During this time, Mr. Ganicenco also studied with Joseph Alessi, Principal Tromobone of the New York Philharmonic. In 1996 Cristian Ganicenco was the first prize winner of the Pittsburgh Concert Society Competition. Prior to joining the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, he was enrolled in a Doctoral program at Rutgers University.
 
In October 2003, Mr. Ganicenco made his critically acclaimed solo debut with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra performing Creston’s, “Fantasy” for Trombone and Orchestra.
 
In 2004 Cristian Ganicenco was invited to play with Zubin Mehta and the Super World Orchestra in Tokyo, Japan along with other principal players from Berlin Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Bavarian Radio Orchestra, Boston Symphony, Munich Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, London Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Royal Concertgebouw, etc.
 
Mr. Ganicenco’s recent solo CD album “Beyond Oblivion” received critical acclaim In American Record Guide, and has been the CD Baby’s editor’s Peak List as well as Top Seller List.
 
Cristian Ganicenco has been invited to performed extensively around the world and has participated in numerous International Festivals in: Salzburg, Edinburgh, Munich, Sao Paolo, Milan, Paris, etc.
 
Mr. Ganicenco is a founding member of concert:nova, a fresh and dynamic chamber music ensemble that blends together the traditional and contemporary with an inspired visual twist to explore a modern, kinetic and powerful new concert experience in Cincinnati.
 
Mr. Ganicenco, performs exclusively on Edwards trombones, and Greg Black mouthpieces.
 
Cristian Ganicenco is available for solo appearances, recitals, master classes and clinics.
